Escondido, which means, "hidden valley" in Spanish, lies about 18 miles inland, 100 miles south of Los Angeles and 30 miles northeast of San Diego. Residents also have easy access to more than 20 area golf courses. Students are served by the Escondido Union Elementary and Escondido Union High School districts.
